the spirit moved and darkness dissipated
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters (Genesis 1:2 KJV)
Gen. 1:2 above gives us a compelling account of creation. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the waters. Before the Word went out in verse 1, the Spirit of God “moved upon the face of the waters.” The Hebrew word used here for “moved upon” is used of a bird hanging in the air over something and hovering by moving its wings back and forth. This is the first Word the Lord uses in scripture to describe the moving of the Holy Spirit.
The world is so dark today and getting darker by the day. Evil, sin, wickedness, suffering, and demonic activity are on a high-speed lane. The same Holy Spirit who was clearly on the earth in creation is now on the earth again. He sees darkness all over the earth—again. And He is already moving upon the face of the earth! When He moved in verse 2, the Word went out in verse 3. The Word was the light that dispelled the darkness.
In a beautiful analogy, Paul goes back to this account and says:
“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6 KJV).
Did you note what the light is? Did you see where it is saying? The light is the knowledge of Christ shining in the darkness of the hearts of people. Move, Spirit of the Lord, and let the light shine in our hearts as we come into an intimate knowledge of the Lord Jesus and see His glory!
MEDITATE
I want you to compare Gen. 1:2-3 and 2 Cor. 4:6 above and see what God is doing today as He did in creation.
