What Does The Holy Spirit Look Like?

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever (Jn. 14:16 NKJ)

One reason why we have difficulty relating with the Holy Spirit is because He seems to be too abstract or mysterious to us, “like the wind!” We humans function with pictures in our imaginations. When we think of Jesus an image easily comes to mind, maybe from a classic portrait of Jesus or from a film about Jesus.

What comes to your mind when you think of the Holy Spirit? What does the Holy Spirit look like? How does He operate? Is He some mystery that we cannot really understand or relate to? Is He a wind that we cannot truly know or have a relationship with?

The scripture above gives us a clue to help us understand what the Holy Spirit is like. He is not a wind or some mystery that you cannot relate with. Jesus called Him “another Helper.” The word “another”  implies  there was already a Helper with those whom Jesus was addressing, and this Helper was Jesus himself. He was the Paraclete (Helper) who stood beside the disciples while He was with them – providing, protecting, guiding, encouraging, and teaching the disciples.

Jesus tells them “another Helper” will be coming. This Helper was the Holy Spirit. What does the Holy Spirit look like? He looks like Jesus!

While on earth, Jesus was a Man with flesh and blood and we could easily relate with Him. But the Holy Spirit, is, of course, Spirit. If He had to take up a body and live here on earth, He would look exactly like Jesus! And get ready for this – the Holy Spirit  answers to the Name Jesus. When you call Jesus, guess Who shows up? The Holy Spirit!

MEDITATE

From the verse above, who gives the Holy Spirit?

APPLY THE WORD

Start relating with the Holy Spirit within you as you would to Jesus if He was beside you.

PRAY

Thank the Holy Spirit for living inside of you and bringing you into fellowship with Jesus.

  1. About a year ago I was sitting on my loveseat reading about the ultimate sin because I thought I committed it! After my partner of 15yrs died next to me in bed on the morning of 15yr anniversary, then meeting a guy 3 months later who crushed me more, then my sister in law died, then more heart break from another guy about a year later doing the same things, then becoming an alcoholic and almost killing myself by smashing my suv into a guardrail on the highway, then my grandmother died, then my mother died, then more heartbreak from another guy, and a few other things.. I cussed God out because things piled up on me so high in a matter of 4years but any who…

While I was reading about the ultimate sin and crying and talking to God a bright light came on out the corner of my left eye (dim to bright really fast) I looked back and nothing was there so I shook it off and got back to reading and stuff, then this gem like light (about the size of a 50 cent piece) caught my eye on my ceiling. I looked at it for a few seconds then looked away because I felt a little freaked out, about 10-15 I looked back up and it was gone, something inside me said welcome it, not something like someone talking me just me telling myself so I said your welcome here and nothing happened so I got back to reading and stuff and about a minute later this tiny light (Little bigger than looking at a star in the sky) appeared in my left eye, it got brighter and brighter until the vision in my left eye was white hazy (lasted maybe 15-20 seconds) and then that was it! It was the most beautiful moment in my entire life! Jesus talks about the comforter coming and then living inside us forever for those who believe!

“If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;”
    ‭John 14:15-16‬

“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭15:26‬ ‭

“At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.”
    ‭John 14:20 ‬

Or it’s the morning star Jesus talks about in revelation! I don’t know which!

“And I will give him the morning star.”
    ‭Revelation 2:28‬
