May my prayer be counted as incense before Thee; The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering. (Ps. 141:2 NAS)

Prayer is key, and remains a mystery in our relationship with God. It is doubtless a prime target for the enemy. There are  three different dimensions of prayer I want to bring to your attention. The first dimension is familiar to almost everyone. It is the dimension of asking what we need from God. Sadly, this is all that prayer is to some believers.

A second, and higher, dimension of prayer is fellowship. Fellowship with God is just being together with Him in prayer. It does not matter what the content of the prayer is. It could be a prayer of petition, but beyond the request is a desire to spend time with God. This is a dimension of intimacy. When we step into this dimension in prayer, rather than feeling exhausted, we feel refreshed and full of life. It is a dimension of “just being in the presence of God”. The verse above gives us another dimension of prayer- spiritual sacrifice, a sweet-smelling aroma to God. Our prayer is as incense before God, and when we lift up our hands to Him, it is like the evening burnt offering. Step higher in prayer. There is more that happens when we pray. Step into the realm of fellowship and spiritual sacrifice.

MEDITATE

What is the temperature of your prayer life? Think about the verse above. Do you desire to experience the sweet fellowship with God in prayer? Have you ever been to the realm where your prayer is a spiritual offering, sweet-smelling aroma to God? It is for you too!

PRAY

Pray now and ask the Father to help you in your prayer life. God knows we all need help, that’s why He gave us to Spirit (Rom.8:26).

APPLY THE WORD TODAY!

Resist every temptation or pressure from the world to silence prayer in your life. God wants to have fellowship with you 24/7. You can talk with God even in the midst of your duties at work. Also learn to cultivate a moment when you spend time alone with God in prayer. That is where you build intimacy with Him that will keep you through 24/7 fellowship all day. Practice a lifestyle of prayer, and see the manifestation of God’s sweet presence in your life take another level!
