Fear is a spirit-break free from it today
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Tim. 1:7 )
Fear has the potential of ruining our lives and stopping us from becoming what God has made us to be. If you will ever become or do anything worthwhile with your life on earth, you must be able to overcome fear. We can fear other people, events, demonic forces or even God. The scripture above says ” God hath not given us the spirit of fear”. The phrase ” spirit of fear” teaches us something more profound about fear. Fear is a spirit. This does not mean it is a “spirit being” or a demonic personality called “fear”. Fear is a spiritual influence, a controlling power over the hearts of men and women. You will notice that when fear grips you, it is as if some powerful influence takes over you from which it is quite difficult to break loose from.
There are people today who will not do what they have to do because of fear. They will miss opportunities, ruin relationships, forfeit destiny and even lose their joy because fear made them not to do what they did had to do or vice versa. Fear will keep a man in a cage and puts him in check. You can paralyze someone completely just by instilling fear in them. That’s how powerful fear can become.
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. The fear referred to in the text above is not the holy fear of God but the slavish type that ruins our lives. You must not allow fear to take over your life. In fact, the world is getting more and more restless and men’s hearts are melting because of fear. They fear for their safety, economic crises, their children, families, jobs, and businesses, their freedom, etc etc. Trusting in God’s presence with you is the antidote to fear. God commanded Joshua “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. (Jos. 1:9 )”. Be proactive and take mastery fear from your life by cultivating a culture of assurance of God’s presence with you. Since fear is a spirit, it responds to words. Rebuke fear from your life when it shows up with God’s Word. Do not let it take a hold of your spirit.
MEDITATE
The Word in your mind and mouth (1 Tim 4:15; Josh 1: 8)
Keep that verse above in your mind today.
PRAY
Water the Seed( word) to grow. Invite the Spirit’s strength! (Isa 32:15; Zach 4:6)
Ask the Lord to deliver you from the spirit of fear.
APPLY THE WORD TODAY!
Your door to a blessed life today is doing God’s Word. Refuse to be a hearer or reader only! (James 1:22-26)
When fear shows up today, for it will likely come to see if you will accept it, rebuke it by commanding it to leave your heart and mind, and remember God’s words to Joshua above. If you do not actively keep fear away, it will get too comfortable in your life.
