But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies….. (2 Peter 2:1 KJV)
We do not know the day of the Lord’s coming, but He gave us signs to watch out for so that we are not ignorant. One of the signs of the end is that iniquity shall abound. Sin will increase, and that is clearly before our eyes today. However, there is another subtle sign of the end times the scriptures clearly speak of, which many of us do not recognize. Peter spoke about it extensively in 2 Peter 2. He says there will be false teachers within God’s people. Remember, these are not false teachers coming in with another religion. They are false teachers amongst God’s people, who appear to be true Christians and true ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Peter continues to tell us what these false teachers will do in the end times:
“And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you…” (2 Peter 2:3 KJV).
Did you get that? In their greed for money, they will use good words to turn Christians into their money-making machines. The KJV of the Bible says they will “make merchandise of you”.
I have taught before and will repeat it here: there is a money problem in the Church today. The Lord never intended money to occupy the place it has occupied in many churches today. And false teachers are the perpetrators. And certainly, many true teachers are also following suit.
Watch, pray and be sober.
Why do you think believers are so vulnerable today to the exploitation of false teachers?
APPLY THE WORD
Money is important for our personal lives and for ministry work. However, Jesus or the Apostle Paul or Peter will not recognize the doctrines about money and giving that are being preached on many pulpits today. Be careful. Do not become a money-producing machine for the false teachers Peter spoke extensively about in 2 Peter 2.
Please pray for ministers and believers worldwide that the Lord will bring order into our hearts and deliver us from the greed for money that has made its way into His Church.
