What are Showers of Blessing?

And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing (Ezek. 34:26 KJV).

showers of blessing

The underlying concept of a shower is that of rain. When the Lord causes the “shower to come down in his season”, He is causing the rain to fall at the appointed and expected season. But what is the significance of the phrase “of blessing” added to the term shower?

The next verse gives us the result of the shower coming down in due season. “And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD” (Ezek. 34:27 ). When the shower falls on the earth, the crops produce their fruits, abundantly and in increasing measures. This is the blessing. It is a downpour from heaven that causes the earth to produce supernatural results. It is best conceptualized as a “shower of blessing” indeed, as showers from heaven cause the earth to become fruitful and produce abundantly.

The best place to live is with the blessing of the Lord, and the Lord has already poured out the shower of blessing in Christ (Eph. 1:3)! Your land might be your spiritual life, ministry, finances, health, or another facet of your life. The shower that comes from heaven causes your land to yield abundantly!

MEDITATE

Why did God use a shower to illustrate His blessings to us? (Clue: a shower comes from above the earth). Declare that “I am producing fruit in every aspect of my life, because I am showered with all the blessings of God”.

APPLY THE WORD

The key to living in these showers is DOING the Word of God in your every act (Jam.1: 25). Learn to start putting God’s Word to action in everything you do, whether big or small.

PRAY

Thank the Lord for giving you the shower of blessings already in Christ.
