A season for pastors after God’s heart
And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding (Jeremiah 3:15 KJV)
If there was ever a time in the history of the Church when the promise given to the Prophet Jeremiah above should be fulfilled, it is now! The Lord told the Prophet He will give the people pastors or shepherds that will be after His heart to feed the people with knowledge and understanding. What a prophetic word!
In John 21:17, Jesus asked Peter three times if Peter loved Him. When Peter responded, Jesus consistently told Peter to do one thing “feed my sheep/lambs”. It was as though Jesus was telling him “Peter, if you love Me and care after the thing in My heart, then feed my people”. There is no question there are other things Peter as an Apostle had to do, but by repeating the same thing three times, Jesus was telling him what matters to His heart the most was “feeding His people with knowledge”.
Peter took this command from the Lord seriously. An interesting story is recorded in Acts 6. The Church was growing rapidly and there was a quarrel over the distribution of food. When the disciples came to Peter, probably to have him oversee this important issue that was raising problems in the Church, Peter said to them, “It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:2–4 KJV).
The pure and unadulterated knowledge of the Word of God is the ONLY means of bringing the Church to spiritual maturity. I have mentioned this before: miracles are important, but they will never mature the believer by themselves. The Church is in dire need of Pastors after God’s heart who will feed the Sheep with the pure, undiluted and unadulterated Word revealing Jesus the Son of the Living God.
MEDITATE
What is the “food” the pastors are to use to feed the flock above? Why is the Word of God called spiritual food?
APPLY THE WORD
First, pray that the scripture above should be fulfilled. Pray for ministers all over the world, including your own pastor. Then pray for yourself that God will not allow your spiritual stomach to be filled with junk food that will cause spiritual constipation in your life.
PRAY
Ask the Father to stir up the worldwide Church and send a famine in our hearts for His pure and diluted Word.
