They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; And thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures (Psalm 36:8, KJV)
The official name of our Publishing House is Deshen Publishing and our TV channel is called “Deshen TV.” Let me take a moment to share the beauties of this word “deshen” and how it lies at the very heart of our ministry.
The Psalmist says above that the people of God will be abundantly satisfied with the “fatness” of God’s house. The word “fatness” here is a translation of the Hebrew word “deshen”. It means “food marked by richness and full flavor”. It is quality and abundant spiritual food. The Lord says there will be an abundance of this quality food in His house which will abundantly satisfy His people.
When the scriptures speak of spiritual food, it refers to that which gives or imparts life. When food is eaten, it gets absorbed into the body and becomes one with it. After absorption, it alters the body’s structure and function. This is the key to understanding spiritual food. It is that which is taken in, becomes part of a person and then changes the internal make-up , state and function of that person.
Let me illustrate this with an example. Imagine someone who is depressed for a moment. Scripturally speaking, we can say that person is “hungry for joy”. Their inner need is joy. When they receive the Word of God into their heart and believe it, it meddles with their being and releases joy into their heart. The Word then is spiritual food that has satisfied or MET THE NEED for joy. Listen to what Jeremiah said about this:
“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart…” (Jeremiah 15:16, KJV)
The Word is spiritual food, and it changes a person from inside out. What it does to the depressed heart, it will do for the fearful heart, the sick, the spiritually dry, etc. Deshen is quality and abundant food from heaven that meets the needs of God’s people. If believers discover the Word of God as the Manna from heaven to meet their needs, and not just scriptures for them to read, their attitude towards the Word will be dramatically changed. My role as a Minister is to serve you with Deshen. Your role is to feast on the Word as you absorb it and allow it to produce results in your life. He has set the table before you in the presence of your enemies!
Can you explain the concept of spiritual food as discussed above? What is deshen to you?
APPLY THE WORD
What is your attitude towards the Word? If you are not hungry for more, I think you should be concerned about your lack of hunger. It means there is something you do not know about the Word. As newborn babies, desire and hunger for the rich spiritual food from heaven!
