For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV)
Isaiah spoke of the “acceptable year” of the Lord that will be proclaimed by the Messiah when He comes(Isaiah 61:2). The word “acceptable” in this context does not refer to acceptance but to favor. Isaiah was thus prophesying that the Messiah would come and usher in a season of unprecedented divine favor upon humanity.
When Jesus showed up, He went into the Temple, and to the utter dismay of His listeners quoted Isaiah and said
““The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor…. to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor”” (Luke 4:18–19 ESV)
The Jews were stunned and fixed their eyes upon Him. He was announcing to them that the year or the season of divine favor that was promised is now being fulfilled right before your eyes! The Spirit spoke through Paul in 2 Corinthians 6:2 to declare the words “ behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation”! The Lord is telling you that the time is NOW. His presence like no generation has ever experienced. His power without limits. An abundance of joy, peace, and glory like never before. Brethren, it is a good day to be a Christian or better still a child of God! Do not be discouraged; there is so much more for us to enjoy this wonderful fellowship Christ has brought us into.
What are the implications of the words “ NOW is the day of favor or salvation”? What does NOW imply to you?
