And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water (Leviticus 8:6, KJV)
Aaron was chosen by God to be the first high priest along with his sons serving as priests. Their ordination ceremony was quite fascinating as it tells us what God did when we were also ordained as priests in the New Covenant under Jesus, our High Priest.
The LORD commanded Moses first to wash Aaron and his sons with water. After the bath, they were clothed with their beautifully designed clothes(Lev. 8:7). In fact, the high priest’s garments were so beautiful that they were for “beauty and glory.” After dressing up, the priests were then anointed with the anointing oil! Moses then finally offered their sin offering and applied the blood to their right ear, hand, and foot.
The Lord tells us we are God’s priests in Christ, offering spiritual sacrifices to Him. As priests, we also had to be washed, clothed, and anointed for service! 1 Cor. 6:11 says : “..but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11, KJV). Aaron’s clothes were beautiful, but they were only a shadow. The real clothing is the glory of God that the Lord has clothed us with in Christ. At salvation, we “put on Christ” ( Gal. 3:27). “Put on” is a figurative phrase that means putting on Christ as we put on our clothes! Furthermore, Christ has been “ made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30, KJV).What glorious clothing we are putting on in Christ!
The Old Testament priests were anointed with oil because it takes the Spirit of God to offer sacrifices that will be acceptable to Him. As a priest unto God, you were also anointed in Christ! ( 2 Cor. 1:21). The rituals the OT priests went through were only symbolic of what God has done to us in Christ! You are the God’s priest, washed, clothed, and anointed in Christ, to offer the sacrifice of praise to Him continually!!
Declare that “I am washed, clothed and anointed in Christ!”
APPLY THE WORD
You are gloriously clothed in Christ. You are God’s priests. You were created to give God praise as your spiritual sacrifice. Your life was meant to be a sacrifice, well-pleasing to the Father. Get to work, priests of the Lord!
Thank the Father for His wonderful blessings for us in Christ.
