And behold, I am sending the Promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high (Luke 24:49, ESV)

After Jesus resurrected from the grave, He gave the Apostles specific instructions to wait in Jerusalem until He sends the Promise of the Father upon them. This Promise is the Holy Spirit which Luke again mentions in Acts 1:8: 

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8, ESV)

There are mysteries in these verses regarding the intriguing relationship between the Holy Spirit and the power of God, but let me focus on the words “clothed with power from on high”. The word “clothed” means to put  one’s clothing or garment. So God clothed the Apostles with a garment called power. What comes to your mind when you think about the clothes someone is putting on? Well, it is what you see. This is a crucial truth in this verse. Clothing simply means you have been covered and whatever is seen about you becomes what has covered you. In other words to be clothed with power in this verse means power was going to be VISIBLE or manifesting in their lives for all to see. They spoke in tongues, performed miracles, manifested diverse gifts of the Spirit, etc.. They did not just believe they had received power in their spirit. That power was palpable, tangible, and visible. This is what it means to be clothed with power from on high in this verse!

Power in your spirit  per se does not affect anyone here on the earth. Yes, the Holy Spirit is in your spirit and the power of God is inside you. However, it is power that has filled your soul that is palatable or felt by those around you or even experienced by you. This is what is called the anointing! It is not just power, but power that is tangible and visible. It is power that is a mantle or clothing you are putting on! May the Lord clothe you indeed with power from high to change the world around you!

What kind of clothes, spiritual clothes, are you putting on? What about God is being SEEN by those around you in your life? 

APPLY THE WORD

I shared before that it is one thing to have the power of God in your spirit and it is another to have that power tangible and manifesting. God does not only want to clothe your spirit with the Garment of His Spirit but also wants to clothe your soul so that His Spirit will become the GARMENT that people SEE! This is why you spend time meditating on the Word or seeking Him in prayer, so that your soul becomes  yielded to the Spirit and His mantle  fills your life at all times. Put on your beautiful garments, oh child of the living God! ( Isa. 52:1)
