Two Laws that will Determine Where You Will Be at the End of the Year

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years (Gen. 1:14 KJV)

Imagine if you had insight into what the end of your year will look like, guided by God’s Word. This devotional delves into two key spiritual principles: divine illumination and the law of sowing and reaping, offering guidance for the year ahead.

The heavenly lights, as described in Genesis, don’t just mark time; they symbolize the guiding principles in our lives. In Genesis 1:14, God set the lights in heaven to determine the seasons on earth. This is true literally and metaphorically. Consider ‘light’ representing knowledge and revelation, while ‘earth’ symbolizes your heart and life. The degree of spiritual insight and understanding you possess can shape the seasons of your life, be it in health, finances, or relationships. It’s essential to grasp this metaphor; your understanding of Him shapes your relationship with God.

The second law, intertwined with the first, is the principle of sowing and reaping. Although this phrase is almost exclusively used for giving and receiving in many Christian circles—which is true—it is important to note that this law extends beyond financial seeds. It encompasses all aspects of life. To reap a rich and intimate relationship with God, you need to plant seeds of prayer, feeding on the Word, worship, obedience, etc. If your goal is good health, consider the seed of healthy living. Similarly, for academic success, the seeds are diligent study and disciplined time management. Every desired outcome in life has a seed that needs to be sown.

We often miss the mark by expecting different results from our plant seeds. As you aspire for a closer walk with God this year, consider what seeds you’re planting to turn this aspiration into reality.

Embrace these two laws in your life, and observe the transformation by year-end.

Meditate

Reflect on how these two laws determined your walk with God last year.

Apply the Word

As you embark on this year, consider the quality of spiritual ‘light’ you live by. Much of our life’s journey is directed by our actions and choices, guided by God’s Word and Spirit. Embrace this power and actively shape your year.

Pray

Pray for a deeper immersion in God’s Word and His Light. Ask for the grace to walk in His truth and wisdom throughout the year.
