And have been clothed with the new man that is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one who created it. (Col. 3:10 NET)
God recreated man (including both men and women) in Christ. This truth is not an assumption, a spiritual hyperbole or some other Christian rhetoric. Just as man was created by God in Genesis 1-2, God has repeated this process of creating man through the work of Jesus on the cross. It might appear blurry to us because we still see things from their outward appearance. The Word of God is the window to the world of the spirit. It says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that whoever is in Christ is a “new creation“.
When God created man in Gen 1:26, man’s body was first created here on earth, and the spirit from God was breathed into his nostrils. In the new creation, however, man’s spirit has first been recreated here on earth, and the new body will be brought to us when Jesus returns. However, we do not need to wait for the new spiritual body, before enjoying the benefits of the new man. The scripture above says we should clothe ourselves with the character of the new man, and is further explained in the 12th verse of the same chapter “therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience”. Since you have been recreated, you should put on the new man in your outward life. Align yourself with the new life in your spirit, and you will see new results. There can be a disconnect between the outward and the inward man. The choice is ours to make. God commands us to choose the ways of the new man daily.
Take a moment to really realize that God means what He says, that you are a new creation. Then declare to yourself that you are being “clothed with the realities of the new man in the way you talk and act, so you are getting the results of the new creation life”.
Thank the Lord for the gift of a new heart or spirit. Ask the Spirit to help you fully acknowledge this reality, and start walking fully in it.
God has recreated you. God has brought knowledge to you that you are a new creation. It is now left to you to make this your daily reality. Align your soul and body with the new spirit. Do not entertain thoughts, passions, feelings, or imaginations from the old life. You have the power and the choice. Refuse to talk or act the way the old man used to act before meeting Christ. The fruit, or character, of the new man is love, peace, joy, patience, and kindness. Choose these virtues in your words and actions. Each time you choose to act in line with the new man, you make him stronger.
