Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. (Prov. 3:7 )
Trust and obey God every day, for that is your ticket to a victorious life. There is indeed no other way to be happy in Jesus, and in this life. In 1887, John Sammis wrote the words of the all-time favorite Christian hymn “Trust and obey”. The words of this hymn are still full of life today as they were in 1887 because they are essentially the word of God.
The refrain reads
Trust and obey, for there is no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
There is truly no other way to make it with God, and have a successful walk with Him here on this earth than to trust Him and do what He tells you to do. Everything else is dependent on these.
Proverbs 3:5 above says “trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding”. Trust is depending on God and counting on His character. Trust makes us put God’s wisdom above ours, and do what He tells us to do rather than what we think would have been the right thing to do. In fact, the 7th verse of Proverbs 3 cautions us to “be not wise in thine own eyes”. Trust is letting go of your own wisdom and strength and counting on God’s transcending wisdom and power to guide and control your life. Doing what God says is the greatest proof that we have trusted Him. This is the trust test. Trust is seen in our words and actions. You can tell for yourself whether you trust God or not. Trust, and obey, for there is no other way to walk with God and please Him.
These two words “trust and obey” are basically what faith really is. In faith, we trust Him and do what He says. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. The Lord is faithful and does not disappoint. Thrust yourself into the hands of God and see for yourself that He is worth your trust and confidence in life. He never fails.
The Word in your mind and mouth (1 Tim 4:15; Josh 1: 8)
Keep God’s Word in your mind and mouth by meditating and confessing the words of the scripture above in the light of today’s devotional.
Water the Seed (word) to grow. Invite the Spirit’s strength! (Isa 32:15; Zach 4:6)
Ask the Lord for the wisdom and the grace to trust God. Also, pray that God will deliver you from the temptation of your own wisdom.
APPLY THE WORD TODAY!
Your door to a blessed life today is doing God’s Word. Refuse to be a hearer or reader only! (James 1:22-26)
Choose to do or say what God says in the Word today rather than what you think or feel is right. This is trust. Rather than being afraid or anxious today, trust that God is with you and will make all things work for your good. How? I don’t know- just trust and obey! This is the life of trust. Remember, “lean not on your own understanding”.
