Spiritual 911:God’s Line to Reach Heaven
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (Jeremiah 33:3, KJV)
Imagine having a direct line to call God when you need His help. While it’s not a literal telephone number, Jeremiah 33:3 introduces us to a divine system for reaching God in times of crisis.
This verse is often referred to as “God’s telephone number.” It invites us to call upon Him in times of need or crisis. In the United States, we dial 911 for urgent help, relying on police officers, firefighters, and EMS professionals who work tirelessly to save lives. They deserve our constant prayers. However, what if the crisis involves struggles like sinful behaviors, addiction, depression, or fears? Or what if a demon is harassing someone? These aren’t situations for 911 responders but are precisely the moments when God’s spiritual 911 becomes essential.
Calling upon God means more than just asking for help; it involves two core Christian virtues: faith and prayer. To call on God is to reach out to Him in prayer with the belief that He will hear and save. For example, the prayer of salvation that brought you to Jesus was a call to heaven: you called upon Him and He saved you.
Sometimes, calling upon God is a quiet prayer; other times, it’s a cry filled with tears and even loud cries. Whether your prayers are whispered or wailed, when you dial heaven’s 911, expect a divine response.
In the New Testament, the concept of God’s direct line is elegantly recast, using the imagery of someone approaching a king with a request:
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16, KJV)
As this verse illustrates, heaven’s lines are always open to you as a believer. It’s crucial to believe this truth. No matter what challenges or distress you are currently facing, take the opportunity to call upon your Father directly. He has promised to rend the heavens and come to your aid, as stated in Isaiah 64:1.
