O That There Were Such a Heart in Them
O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! (Deut. 5:29 KJV)
When the Israelites saw the glory of God as fire upon mount Sinai, a holy fear of God came upon them and in this holy reverence for God, they said to Moses “speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it “(Deut. 5:27 KJV). The LORD made the statement in our main scripture above in Deut. 5:29 in response to what they said that “o that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them..”.
The LORD knew that His Word was their very life, and He expressed His desire to have such a heart in them to do His Word always so that it might be well with them. He could not force them to keep His Word. They had to choose to do so. You see, your wellbeing in life is your choice. However, many of us mistakenly think it is God’s choice. Your welfare, prosperity and ultimate happiness in this life lie in your attitude towards the Word of God. The LORD is still saying those words above to us today, that “o that there were such an heart in them”. Resolve to be a doer of the Word, in big or small things.
MEDITATE
Can you see the relationship between the Word of God and your prosperity in life?
APPLY THE WORD
Set your life on a path of prosperity by developing an attitude of obedience and doing the Word. Rejoice always. Be anxious for nothing. Flee sexual immorality. Etc. The Word is one, whether “major or minor” instructions. Be a doer of the Word.
PRAY
Ask the LORD to help you pay attention to both taking His Word into your heart and doing it so that it may be well with you.
