Meet Sister Phebe

I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea (  Romans 16:1 KJV)

The Apostle Paul commends sister Phebe who was a sister in the local Church at Cenchrea. Why did the Apostle commend this sister? The verse following tells us why:

That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also (Rom. 16:2 KJV).

This sister “hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also”. A succourer is the   KJV language for a helper. Phebe was a sister that Church members will turn to in a crisis and find relief. In, fact the Apostle Paul says he had also received help from  Phebe. Do you know that when people pray to the Lord in their distress, He looks for people like Phebe to answer their prayers?  This is what God wants from all of us. Be the salt in someone’s life. Be the answer to someone’s prayer. Be the hand that sustains that brother or sister.

The Lord pays attention to what we do to our brethren in His House. He says “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (Gal. 6:10 KJV). Doing good to all men is commendable, but He adds “especially unto them who are of the house of faith.” Charity begins at home indeed. As a family, we need to be sensitive to each other’s needs. Listen to sister Phebe. A major value of money is in the smiles you put on other people’s faces.

MEDITATE

Was Phebe the riches believer in the Church in Cenchrea? Do you need to be wealthy to help someone?

APPLY THE WORD

There are people that God speaks to more often because He knows that when He asks them to help a brother or sister, they will listen. Would the Father send  Brother A or sister B to come your way knowing that you will help them in some need they have?  Give your money value by putting a smile on other people’s faces. God has not called you to solve the world’s problems. He has called you to address those problems that He brings your way, no matter how small they are.Not every problem is for you to solve. Develop the culture of meeting needs that are in your capacity.

PRAY

Ask the Lord to help you be a succourer of many in your local Church as Phebe was.
