What is the Blessing?

And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing (Ezekiel 34:26, KJV)

The best way to understand the blessing of God is to look at the natural analogies the scripture uses to describe the blessing to us. One of the most common is that of rain showers falling on a piece of land, as noted above. Think of the effect of rain on vegetation for a minute, then read the next verse below:

“… there shall be showers of blessing. And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase… (Ezekiel 34:26–27, KJV)

When rain falls, the trees grow and bear fruit. Rain, that is, water from heaven, causes the plants to flourish. The rain from heaven is the blessing. The trees represent people. The blessing of God is that which comes from heaven and make men’s life flourish in everything. Whatever is blessed changes its course and becomes prosperous no matter what it is. It may be your job, your family, ministry, finances, etc.

The blessing of God is, therefore, a  divine enablement to prosper in anything that concerns us. When we are blessed, whatever we touch is spiritually conditioned to move in our favor. It is a spiritual power that follows us and whatever we do. It makes life respond favorably to us. It is as though God has commanding anything or anyone that comes our way to ensure we have the best they can offer!!

MEDITATE

Can you think of instances that the blessing, this divine power for favor, operated in Abraham’s life?

APPLY THE WORD

God has already blessed us in Christ by the giving us of the rain from heaven, His Word and His Spirit. As believers, we WALK and experience that blessing by DOING the Word. Be a doer, and you shall be blessed in all you do. Learn to do what God has commanded in the Word. Seriously!

PRAY

Thank the Lord for the wonderful privilege of being blessed in Christ.

    1. Anca, that’s a really good question and we bless the Lord for putting in your heart to do the Word. Doing the Word simply means just obeying what God has commanded us to do. The Bible shows us His will for us, eg forgive, do not be anxious, pray, meditate on the Word, be holy, etc. We can find our His will regarding most of what we will encounter. This passage helps summarize this

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.

But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”
      ‭‭James‬ ‭1:22-23, 25, AMP
