Dealing with stress in your life
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved (Psalm 55:22 KJV)
Stress is the state of mental or emotional strain or tension that occurs when we are going through demanding situations in life, whether at home, work, school, or community. Stress and anxiety are faithful accompaniments to human life on earth. A financial demand might currently stress some of us up while their kids or bosses at work stress others up. What does the Lord want us to do with stress?
The Psalmist summarizes God’s instruction for us to deal with our stressful situations. The commandment is simple “cast thy burden upon the LORD”, that is, give the Lord the problem! We deal with stress by transferring responsibility to the Lord. This is not absolving ourselves from responsibilities. It is trusting in the Father. The one secret needle that punctures the ballon of stress in our lives is trusting the Lord, which transfers our burdens to Him.
The Lord, who is with us today, is the Holy Spirit! ( 2 Cor. 3:17). He is called our paraclete, meaning He is with us to carry our weights, support us when we are weak, help us with difficult tasks, guide us with wisdom when we are not sure what we should do, make a way where there is no way, etc. He gets to work when we trust Him and pulls back when we take on the responsibility.
If God says He is Father, He knows very well the responsibilities that come with fatherhood. Let Him do His Father stuff, and we should do what children generally do with their Father, that is, trust Him with childlike faith.
MEDITATE
How do you cast your burden upon the Lord? Think about what this means in the context of trust, as discussed above.
