We Have Redemption through His blood
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:14 KJV)

Redemption is a key part of our salvation and is found all through the Bible. It is important to understand this truth and live by it. To grasp what redemption means, we need to look at its root meaning, how it appears in the Old Testament, and how Jesus fulfilled it.
The Greek word for redemption here is Apolýtrōsis, which means “a releasing by paying a ransom.” It means buying back or setting someone free by paying a price. There are two main ideas in this word:
- A release from what was holding someone back.
- A price or ransom paid to make that release happen.
The clearest picture of this in the Old Testament is the kinsman-redeemer (Leviticus 25). If someone was sold into slavery, a close relative with the money and willingness could pay to set them free. The person was released from slavery, and the price was the money paid.
Paul says we have been redeemed through the blood of Christ. Jesus set us free from the slavery of sin, the power of Satan, and death. What was the price? His blood. Jesus paid for our freedom by shedding His blood and dying on the cross.
“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” (Acts 20:28, KJV)
While redemption involves the idea of a price being paid, Jesus was not paying Satan. He paid the cost to bring us back to God. Redemption is not about a marketplace deal—it’s about the great personal price Christ paid.
Here’s the good news: You have been redeemed! You’ve been set free from every chain of sin, Satan, and death. Jesus paid the price with His blood. You are now free to live for God.
Meditate
What does it mean that Christ has redeemed you by His blood?
Think about what it means to now belong to Him and how that changes your life each day.
Act on the Word
Say this truth out loud:“I am redeemed through His blood. I am forgiven. I am free.”Let this truth shape your heart and mind. Don’t let sin, guilt, or fear control you. You belong to Christ—live like it.
Pray
Thank You, Lord, for redeeming me by Your blood. I am forgiven, free, and Yours forever.
