Who Is the Holy Spirit and What Does He Do?
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26, ESV).
Who is the Holy Spirit? What does He do in your life? These are very important questions for every single believer. The spirit world is an entirely different dimension of life than our physical world. The human mind has a really hard time figuring out the spirit realm. The same is true about the Holy Spirit.
There are many misconceptions about who the Holy Spirit is and what He does. God is a trinity – Father, Word, and Spirit. We will understand this fully when we cross over into eternity. He is a spirit and has a Spirit. The spirit realm functions as an invisible force on the earth. However, the Holy Spirit is not a force but a person. He is not an “it” but a “Him.” He talks, thinks, and feels. He is God Himself.
Jesus was physically with the apostles. Jesus was God in the flesh with the disciples. He taught them. Strengthened them. Protected them. Today, God is no longer physically here in the flesh with us. However, He is still here by His Spirit living inside of us. If you have a hard time figuring out who the Spirit is, how He operates and what He is here for, just look at Jesus relating to the disciples. The only difference is that you do not see Him because He is inside of you.
MEDITATE
What is included in the word “helper” in our verse above? Please read John 14:26 in the Amplified version and see the synonyms used. Declare “The Holy Spirit is God living in me to carry out all His purposes and plans for my life.”
APPLY THE WORD
Start learning to relate to the Spirit as God Himself, a person, and not some power or force in you. Learn to talk with Him.
PRAY
Ask the Lord to help you understand and walk more closely with the Spirit.
