And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha (2 Kings 6:17 KJV)
Spiritual eyes are the eyes that see spiritual realities. This devotional will briefly review the three keywords—eyes, seeing, realities—and why seeing spiritually is critical for your spiritual life.
Seeing is perceiving realities through the eyes; seeing is vision, and the eye is the organ through which we see. Perceiving is simply detecting and becoming aware(knowing) of what is existing around or in us(realities). So the eye is merely the organ that allows us to know things that exist. Physical eyes see material things—for example, you can see the words of this devotional. As you see the words, you know they are there, and you know what they mean. Thus, the fundamental feature of seeing, whether physical or spiritual, is knowing.
Spiritual eyes are the capacity in us that allows us to perceive(or see) spiritual realities. When God opened Elisha’s servant’s eyes above, he saw angels all around them. These angels were always there, but his physical eyes could not see them. God supernaturally enabled his physical eyes to see and KNOW that these angels were there. Similarly, some of you reading this devotional might be so anxious and fearful of the challenges you are dealing with. However, those concerns will vanish immediately if your eyes are opened to see the angels around you and God’s provisions already made available to you.
Seeing spiritually is perceiving spiritual things through spiritual eyes. The eye that allows us to perceive spiritual things is our hearts: We see spiritual things through our hearts. God can give us spiritual vision(knowledge of spiritual things) through different ways (eyes), such as opening our physical eyes spiritually in prophetic visions, dreams, or by revelation.
May your spiritual eyes open to see the riches of the glory of Christ in you!

Apply the Word
Spiritual blindness is a significant problem amongst us, God’s people. “My people perish for lack of knowledge….” they do not know, or their eyes are blind! (Hosea 4:6). Cry out, and press on for your spiritual eyes to be opened.
Pray and ask the Lord to open your eyes in understanding and visions (Ps. 118:18, Eph. 1:15-17).
