Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thess. 5:23 NAS)
Man is spirit, soul, and body. The spirit is the dark side of humanity today, because many are unaware of its reality. Unfortunately, some who want to learn get entangled with the dark side of the spirit world. There is a God, and there is a Satan, along with his legion of fallen angelic beings. As a Christian, our victory, in every aspect of life, depends squarely on how mature we are in dealing with the world of the spirit, for the God who gives us victory is a spirit Being and deals with our spirits.
Notice the scripture above says “spirit and soul and body“, and not “body and soul and spirit”. The sequence is very important. Many lead their lives with the order “body, soul and spirit”, placing the emphasis on the things of the body. The truth is, our spiritual health determines the course of our life (Proverbs 4:23). The fallen human spirit, called the “heart”, is the reason for many problems in the world. Sin has plunged man’s spirit in an eternal darkness, and the havoc we see in the world is simply the manifestation of a “sick heart”. Jesus told Nicodemus that a man’s spirit had to be born again for him to see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). As Christians, our spirits have been recreated, born anew. It is our responsibility to train our hearts, and keep it healthy with the Word of God. Watch your spiritual health.
Ponder on the scripture above. Has the reality dawned on you yet that there is a spirit in you?
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you, to reveal the reality of your spirit to you every day, and cause you to promote your spiritual health.
What is the current state of your spiritual health? If a man has not yet trusted Christ, his spirit is in darkness. The first step to regain our spiritual health is to be become born again, to have God create a new spirit or heart within you (2 Cor. 5:17). The next step, is to continuously feed and train your spirit with the Word of God, and to fellowship with God in prayer. Your spirit can be strong or week, full of divine virtues or void. Watch your spiritual health.
