And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God (Deuteronomy 28:2 KJV)
Deuteronomy 28 is a strange chapter in the Old Testament that summarizes God’s dealings with Israel in the Law: blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. We are no longer relating to God by the Law. However, the blessings of the Law listed in Deut. 28 are the blessings of Abraham which are passed to the believer in Christ in grace. Peter said:
“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godlines….” (2 Peter 1:3 KJV)
This is the blessing in Christ. It supersedes the blessing in the Law. It includes both spiritual and physical blessings. Deut. 28:2 says these blessings shall come on you and overtake you. How about having blessings run after you and overtake you? Many are chasing blessings today, but the LORD tells us here that there is a place where blessings chase people until it overtakes them. Do you want to live in that place?
Two phrases describe that place. First, that place is called “in Christ”. You are already there as a believer. The second descriptor is seen in our main verse above. The place is called “ in the Word” or “doing the Word”. Stay in that place, in Christ and in the Word!
Was there a time in Israel’s history where blessings and prosperity were chasing and overtaking them? Think of Solomon’s reign. Did Israel continue to live in “their place” of blessings which was “in the Law”?
APPLY THE WORD
Who amongst us does not want physical blessings? It might be money, healing, children, some breakthrough etc. Well, abide in the place where blessings chase people! Abide in Christ and remain in the Word. Believe me on this. This is what God has laid down as the way to prosperity. Believe and apply it.
Ask the Spirit to help you stay in the place of blessings.
