The mystery of Christian transformation
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV)
Paul uses the analogy of the light on Moses’ face and the light on our faces in the New Testament to compare the glory of God we have today in Christ to that of the Law. When Moses came down from Sinai, his face was so bright that he had to cover it with a cloth. This was a mystery none of them understood then. God was revealing to them that His full glory was covered from the Israelites in the Law. The eyes of their hearts were blinded ( Verse 14-17).
In the New Testament, our faces are unveiled and we can see, meaning our hearts can see or know the glory of God revealed in Christ. In verse 18, Paul makes an astonishing statement that is the secret of the believer’s transformation. He says with our faces unveiled, we look at the glory of the Lord as one looks into a mirror and as we see that glory, the Spirit of God transforms us from one degree of glory to a higher degree, as we shine brighter and brighter.
The mystery lies in the seeing of the glory of God. This seeing is KNOWING the Father revealed in the face of Jesus ( 2 Cor. 4:6). It means the Father is revealed in Jesus, and as we look at Jesus and have a greater revelation of who He is, the glory of God that we radiate shines brighter and brighter! Remember, the light that you radiate is not some physical light, though it certainly can be if God opens our eyes to see. It is the expressions of the divine nature: wisdom, power, love, prosperity, health, joy, peace, etc !! Imagine being a visible expression of what God looks like to your family and neighbors! Arise, shine for your light has come!!!
MEDITATE
What is the trigger for transformation in the verse above?
APPLY THE WORD
Until you behold Jesus and keep your eyes on Him, you cannot grow and be transformed. That means until Jesus is being revealed to you constantly, there is no hope for Christian transformation in your life. Do not be content with messages that excite you and leave you unchanged. It is Christ in the Word that will change you. Keep your eyes on the Son of God always, and let the light glow brighter and brighter.
PRAY
Ask the Spirit to ignite this mystery of transformation in your life by helping you come to the place where Jesus is being revealed to you constantly.Â
