The Path of the Righteous is Like the Light of Dawn
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. (Proverbs 4:18 ESV)
Though the world grows darker, something remarkable occurs among God’s people: our light shines brighter and brighter, like the dawn! Let’s delve into the profound meaning behind the keywords in this verse: righteous, light of dawn, and brighter and brighter.
In the New Testament, “righteous” refers to believers in Christ. Through Christ, we receive the gift of righteousness and become the embodiment of God’s righteousness. In Proverbs 4:18, Solomon prophetically spoke of us in Christ today (2 Corinthians 5:21).
As believers, we walk in the path of righteousness, encompassing our daily lives and manner of living. While we receive righteousness as a gift through Christ, we practically live it out on this path. Solomon’s words go beyond saying the righteous shine brighter; he emphasizes that the path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter.
In this context, light symbolizes our works, while shining signifies the expression and demonstration of God’s qualities. It’s crucial to note that the verse implies varying degrees of shining: brighter and brighter. Each day, we find ourselves at a certain level of brightness. For instance, the level of God’s wisdom and power at work in you is your current level of brightness and glory. Whenever this level increases, your light gets brighter.
So shining brighter and brighter means moving from one level of glory to a higher level. If God were to open our spiritual eyes to see prophetically, we’d see ourselves as a radiant star, shining brighter and brighter each day!
Be encouraged; something glorious is happening to you daily: continue to shine brighter and brighter!
