Move from hearing to seeing God
I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye has seen you. (Job 42:5 NET)
“Seeing God” is often used in the scriptures for experiencing God. It is not seeing God with our physical eyes. Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3 that no man shall see the kingdom of God except he is born again. This was not seeing with the physical eyes but experiencing, or having a practical, tangible encounter with the kingdom of God. Job told God in the verse above that he had only heard by the ear about God, but he was at that moment having a personal encounter with God that was nothing he had ever experienced before.
We have all been taught in some way or read for ourselves about who God is. Knowing that God is powerful because someone told you is one thing. It is a completely different scenario when you experience God’s power and have a practical relationship with it. This is “seeing God”. Hearing about God is a starting point for almost all of us. But we must move on from there. The knowledge of God is decidedly experiential. To God, you can only really say you know something only after you have experienced it. Do not stop at hearing about God, from your pastor or some minister or some testimony from a brother or sister. Seek to encounter God yourself. Some believers listen to testimonies of other believers and think within themselves if these things are really true or they are some spiritual scam. You too can be the next encounter or the next miracle.
You will hardly be established in your faith by only hearing about God because people who have only heard about God easily quit with any pressure or succumb to any temptation. Something happens to us when we have a personal encounter with God. It might be by a revelation of Himself, a miracle you experience, an encounter with the anointing or His presence. It is very difficult to convince those who have only heard about God to be committed to spiritual things. Any such attempt will only produce empty religious practices. But when a believer encounters God, fire is triggered by his or her bones. It is so important we move from just hearing about God to seeing God. The same thing happened to the Samaritans who heard the testimony of the woman at the well who had encountered Jesus. After “hearing about Jesus” from this woman, they came and “heard Him for themselves”. Then they said to the woman “No longer do we believe because of your words, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this one really is the Savior of the world.” (Jn. 4:42 NET).
Seek to move from hearing to seeing God.
MEDITATE
The Word in your mind and mouth (1 Tim 4:15; Joshua 1: 8)
Roll the main verse above over your mind again and again in light of the devotional above.
PRAY
Water the Seed( word) to grow. Invite the Spirit’s strength! (Isa 32:15; Zach 4:6)
A key to seeing God is desire and hunger. Desire to move from hearing to seeing God today. Ask the Lord to put in hunger in your spirit.
APPLY THE WORD TODAY!
Your door to a blessed life today is doing God’s Word. Refuse to be a hearer or reader only! (James 1:22-26)
Is there a reason you should not be the next divine healing testimony? Why should you always hear that God is a healer and never be healed yourself. Or why don’t you become the next testimony for a financial breakthrough. Should you always hear about the God of provisions from others? Start desiring to know God better today. Become dissatisfied with where you are and earnestly seek God for a new level. Spiritual fire is triggered by divine encounters. The key is to desire and seek God.
