In the Second Year of Darius the King

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel … (Haggai 1:1 KJV)

Prophet Haggai was precise on the day God spoke to him: “in the second year of Darius, the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month.” How many of you can remember a day God spoke something to you?

Many of the Old Testament prophets reported similar experiences. For example, Ezekiel said, “Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.” (Ezekiel 1:1 KJV)

God spoke to Ezekiel through visions on a particular day.

So contrary to a commonly held belief, God is not constantly speaking to you. This teaching has some truth since God’s words are already spoken, and they live forever; consequently, we can always hear them, anytime. However, God is not a radio broadcasting station that is always talking to you. He is a person, and when He communes with us, He does so as we commune or speak with each other. You cannot maintain a healthy relationship with someone who is always talking.

You must tune your spirit and ears to hear God when He speaks to you. Take advantage of your season. He spoke to Ezekiel in visions, Daniel in dreams, and David through Nathan the prophet. Be sensitive to discern that day that the word of the Lord comes to you.

Meditate

Did Daniel have dreams from God every night?

Apply the Word

Learn to write down your dreams. Pray with your notebook. Also, learn to pray and wait quietly on the Lord. You can do these things to treasure or provoke a day, month, or year that God speaks to you.

Pray

Ask the Father to help you see or hear well when He speaks.
