How People Get Blessed or Cursed
And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away (Mark 11:21 KJV)
Jesus spoke to the fig tree without fruits and it withered. When Peter and the others saw it, he said to Jesus “behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away”. Peter used the word “curse”, meaning Jesus cursed the fig tree. However, Jesus simply spoke to the fig tree and said “ No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it” (Mark 11:14, KJV).
Peter interprets Jesus’ words to us and thereby gives us insight into how people or things get cursed. The words “ no man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever” was equal to a curse on the tree. It was a spoken word of doom, destruction, etc for the tree. Notice that Jesus did not necessarily say “I curse you, tree”. He simply spoke about the outcome.
This principle is true with blessings. When God blessed Adam in Gen. 1:26-27, He did not say “ I bless you …”. He simply said, “be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth and subdue it”. These words were words of wellbeing, prosperity, fruitfulness etc. He simply spoke them, and that was the blessing. In fact, the Greek word for blessing really means “to speak well of someone”.
A curse or blessing is a spoken word that has spiritual power to bring to pass what is being spoken. Do you know that there is spiritual power in our mouths? Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Many of us repeatedly curse our lives and the lives of others without realizing it. You do not need to use the word “curse”. The things you are saying determine whether the words are a curse or a blessing to your life. Do not curse your life without realizing it. Speak life and not death!
