Why was God Laughing in this Verse?

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: The Lord shall have them in derision (Psalm 2:4 KJV)

Does God also laugh? Well, Ps. 2:4 explicitly states that He does. Think about this for a moment: our ability to laugh originates from God. This should be no surprise to you, knowing we were created in His image and likeness!

But why was God laughing in this verse? The prior verses give us the context and the reason for this divine laughter.

Why do the nations rage and the people’s plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,”Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision (Ps. 2:1-4 ESV).

When the Lord saw the plans of the rulers of the earth, He laughed because He knows how futile these plots are! Be informed, however, that this heinous scheme to destroy God’s people did not end in David’s day. In fact, the Church today is under attack in various ways and in the different nations of the earth. Since the Lord knows that the Church will triumph victoriously over all, He laughs at His enemies.

What do you think the Lord does when He sees people plotting to destroy you, whether in the open or the dark? You guessed it right—He laughs at them! Join the Lord in this divine laughter against everything that has risen to destroy you or God’s purposes in your life!

Take a moment and imagine  what it would be like for God to be laughing in heaven!

Apply the Word

No weapon of the enemy formed against you shall prosper, and there shall no man or woman be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Do you believe these? Let faith and hope arise as you join the Lord and the heavenly host in celebration of the victory of Jesus with divine laughter!

Ask the Lord to strengthen you to stand in faith and not be frightened by any situations.
