Be filled with the Holy Spirit every day
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, (Eph. 5:18 NAS)
God has commanded us to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Why? There is no Christianity without the power of the Holy Spirit working through us. You cannot live the Christian life, or do service to God, without the Holy Spirit. Interestingly, the Lord contrast being drunk with wine and being filled with the Holy Spirit. He wants the Holy Spirit to take control of your life as wine controls those who are drunk. When the Spirit takes control of our lives, it does not destroy us, or lead to inappropriate behavior like wine does. It will produce beauty and glory. Some believers might think the Holy Spirit will make them behave strangely. No! The Holy Spirit is not some strange force. He is God. He is infinitely wiser than you are.
In Acts 2:4, the believers were filled with the Spirit for the first time. A few days later, the scriptures record “And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak the word of God with boldness (Acts 4:31 NAS). This teaches us that we get filled with the Spirit many times. While the Apostles were praying, they were filled again with the Spirit. God wants us to always be filled, and remain full, of the Spirit. In that place called “full of the Spirit”, there is power, victory, wisdom, and grace available.
MEDITATE
Ponder on the verse above. God wants you to never run dry. How is your spiritual tank?
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the gift of the Holy Spirit to live and dwell with us every day.
ACT NOW!
If you are not yet filled with the Holy Spirit, talk to your pastor, or someone to guide you and pray with you. It is critical for every believer to be filled, and there after be continuously filled, with the Spirit for perpetual victory. After that initial filling, keep getting filled every day, and stay in that place called “full of the Spirit”. Prayer is a powerful spiritual device to get you filled with the Spirit, especially praying in tongues. When you pray in tongues, you edify yourself, and get yourself repeatedly filled with the Spirit. Go ahead and pray in tongues now, and charge up your spirit before launching out.
