The Blood of Sprinkling that Speaks Better Things Than Abel’s
And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. (Hebrews 12:24, KJV)
The sprinkled blood of Jesus speaks, much like Abel’s shed blood. What is the implication here?
Abel was the first person to experience physical death and the first to be murdered. God told Cain, post-murder, “The voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.” (Genesis 4:10, KJV). Here, Abel’s shed blood symbolized his life, which resided in his human spirit. Hebrews 11:4 suggests that, even in death, Abel(not merely his blood) spoke to God by faith. This hints that the “speaking” blood wasn’t merely physical but represented Abel’s spirit persisting after death.
While the content of Abel’s blood’s message to God is not explicitly mentioned, Revelations 6:10 provides a parallel. Here, slain saints ask God, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?” (Revelation 6:10, KJV). Likely, Abel’s blood echoed this sentiment, seeking divine retribution; his blood spoke to God and asked for judgment and condemnation of all those who murdered them.
Like Abel, Christ’s blood was also shed—He was killed. But unlike Abel, His shed blood was also sprinkled, symbolizing His life given to atone for the sins of the transgressors. Rather than seeking retribution, His blood appealed for their forgiveness and salvation. Such is our Savior! Those in Christ Jesus face no condemnation, especially with Christ’s blood advocating powerfully for us. Allow this blood to cleanse your spirit of guilt, shame, and the burdens of sin, restoring spiritual vitality.
And remember, the blood does not only demand our cleansing but our freedom from all the manifestations of spiritual death—condemnation, guilt, fear, shame, disease, oppression, the curse of Genesis 3, etc. His blood, indeed, is speaking better things for us.
Meditate
Ponder on this: How could Abel’s blood communicate after his demise?
Apply the Word
The blood of Christ has absolved you of your sins and the ensuing penalties. This blood continually purifies you. Believe in the redemptive power of the sprinkled blood. Revel in the freedom and redemption it brings.
Pray
Express gratitude to the Lord for the blessing of Jesus’ blood, ever interceding for us.
