Dissecting the Asbury Revival Fires: 4 Essential Takeaways
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. (John 7:37 ESV)
On an ordinary day on February 8th, 2023, an atmosphere of revival took over the college grounds of Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. This revival fire has attracted thousands to this humble town of about 6,000 people.
After an unprecedented 50,000 visitors flocked to the city in a single day, taxing its logistical limits to their fullest extent, the leaders moved the center of revival outside of the university’s grounds.
Here are four essential lessons that we should remember, among a plethora of other topics.
First, God is giving us a foretaste of what He is about to do in these troubling days of the end. The world will experience and bask in God’s extraordinary glory like never before.
Second, this revival has uncovered an understanding about ourselves that many might not have recognized: God’s people are hungry for God. We long for something more than the typical Church services and meetings we are familiar with. Astonishingly, some Christians are so hungry yet do not even know what they are hungry for—they just know deeply that they need something more.
Third, God moves in people and places. Note those two Ps—people and places. In Acts 2:2, the Spirit filled the house (the place) before it filled the disciples in Acts 2:4 (the people). The hearts of the people prepare the places. There is a reason the revival broke out in Asbury Campus in Wilmore, Kentucky: the people’s hearts primed the place.
Finally, as a Christian, never think that you need to wait for revival in order to experience God and satisfy that unquenchable fire in your heart for Him. He wants you to be revived, full of Him, every day. Imagine the Asbury experience every day, in every Christian, every Church, and every city—that will be glory the earth has never seen before!
Meditate
Is it possible to be so hungry for God and not even know it?
Apply the Word
God desires to work through you, your family, your church, and your community in the same glorious way that He is performing at Asbury. If we surrender to Him, seek Him earnestly in prayer and His Word, and sanctify ourselves from sin and the corruption of the world, we will see Asbury everywhere and every day!
Pray
Ask the Lord will make you a person (first P) that primes places (second P) for God’s glory.
