Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations (Jeremiah 1:5 KJV)
The LORD spoke the words above to young prophet Jeremiah when his call was announced to Him. Jeremiah’s father was a priest living in a small town in Israel called Anathoth. He grew up in a priest’s home, preparing to serve in whatever priestly capacity was set for him. However, something unexpected happened to Jeremiah one day when he was probably minded his business.
The LORD spoke to him and told him that He the LORD had already foreknown Jeremiah, consecrated him, and ordained him to be a prophet to the nations— not a priest as his family line required of him. Jeremiah was in shock. In fact, he immediately responded and said to the LORD “Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child” (Jeremiah 1:6 KJV). With his age and background, he could not imagine the LORD was asking him to be a prophet!
However, the LORD already foreordained Jeremiah as a prophet to the nations even before he was born. Think about that. Do you know the LORD spoke better things about you in Christ today before you were born, exceeding what He said to Jeremiah? You are a child of destiny!
Meditate
God foreordained Jeremiah to be a prophet. What do you think God had in mind about you in Christ before you were born?
