Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom (Dan. 6:3 ESV).
Daniel had an excellent spirit, which allowed him to speak with kings and emperors in both the Babylonian and Persian empires. The scriptures explain why Daniel’s excellent spirit attracted such high-ranking empire officials. It says
because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation (Dan. 5:12 ESV).
Daniel had the spirit of wisdom, which enabled him to dissolve doubts, solve problems, and interpret dreams. He was not merely smart as man defines it. He was filled with the spirit of wisdom.
Wisdom is excellent, and it was God’s vehicle for Daniel to stand out in the empire. Daniel solved the problems of the Babylonian empire, and none of the kingdom’s wise men could match Daniel’s wisdom.
The scripture says a man’s gift makes a way for him, and Daniel’s gift certainly did that. Today, we not only have access to the spirit of wisdom, but to the spirit of power and might. These are also gifts that will solve the crises of humanity, and make you more excellent than the world around you. This is what I call the “believer’s advantage”. God puts you ahead in life by giving you gifts that the world cannot match.
How did Daniel become recognized in the Babylonian empire? Declare that “I am excellent, and an excellent spirit is in me!”

Paul prayed that the spirit of wisdom should be granted to the Ephesians in Eph. 1:15-17. You can also pray and seek God for this spirit of excellence to dwell in you.
Thank the Lord for the gift of the spirit of wisdom to you.
