The Hidden Man of the Heart

But let it be the hidden man of the heart… even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price (1 Pet. 3:4 KJV)

Man is beautifully designed by God to be a spirit being, living on the earth through a soul. The body was created to be a dwelling place or a house for the human spirit to dwell and live on the earth. The “real person” is not the body but is living within the body. This “real person” within, the “real you” is what the Apostle Peter calls here the “hidden man of the heart.”

First, notice that this inward man is hidden. He is not seen by other people but is clearly seen by God. Though he is hidden, he is expressed through words and actions for others around to see what he really looks like.

Though this inward man is hidden, he is actually the control center of what the entire life of that person will be like. This is crucial. Your life is determined by the state and activities of this hidden man of the heart (Prov. 4:23). You will see what is in your heart eventually show up in your body, finances, relationships, and career. Many people are so meticulous in caring for their bodies and neglect their hearts, yet this hidden man of the heart controls what will ultimately happen to their bodies. Care for your heart, too!

MEDITATE

How important is the heart to God from our main verse above? Why is it important to God? See Joh.4:24.

APPLY THE WORD

Are you conscious of the state and processes of this hidden man inside of your body? If you have the hidden poison of bitterness or lusts in your heart, respond to the Word today and clean your heart!

PRAY

Ask the Spirit to help you understand the operations of the hidden man inside of you and to take every effort to keep your heart in its best state for glorious results.
