Why am I broke?
I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. (Prov. 24:30-31 KJV)
“Why am I broke?” Seriously? That is an important question for us to ponder while looking to the scriptures to guide us. This question has haunted my own mind and made me look into the Word to find out what God says about wealth and poverty. One of the first obvious truths in the scriptures about divine prosperity is that poverty or riches are not by chance. They are directly related to what people do with what they have. The rich know and consistently do what the poor don’t know and/or do.
There are several reasons why we can be broke, and the Spirit will help show us what is more important in our lives individually. The scripture above gives us one of the important attitudes or character traits that attract poverty. It is slothfulness. Money is a reward for doing something to meet a need. God gives you money, talents, time, strength, abilities( a seed) so that we can use what you have to meet needs in other’s lives. The slothful is someone who does nothing and ends up with nothing. The book of Proverbs is full of admonition against slothfulness. The slothful man may know what to do, has the ability to do it but just does not do it for whatever reason. And slothfulness makes us experts in finding excuses why it could, or was not done. Be diligent today in what God has put in your hands to do.
MEDITATE-Why am I broke?
Ponder upon that verse above. Ask the Spirit to show you if there are missed opportunities in your life right now, just because you are not DOING something with what God has given you as a seed.
PRAYER
Ask God for the spirit of diligence in everything you do, from your family, relationships, spiritual life, ministry, job or business.
ACT TODAY
There are going to be some of God’s precious children reading this devotional today with businesses within them that are dead because of slothfulness, and they are asking God every day for financial breakthroughs. Some of you might have books inside of you; others have the next big idea. For others, you have a job but do not DO what you do with diligence. God’s seed inside of you will create wealth for you because He God will multiply and bless the works of your hands. Plant it by DOING something with it. Money is a blessing for meeting a need with what is in your hand. Look at what you do, and the needs you meet by what YOU DO, whether at your job or neighborhood and you might see some answers to the question “why am I broke?”.
