Two Operational Arms of the Anointing
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24, KJV)
When discussing the anointing, we often focus solely on power. However, the anointing is multi-dimensional. For instance, there is an anointing to be—we are anointed to be God’s children—and an anointing to do—operational. Today, we will focus on the operational dimensions of the anointing and review its two dimensions: wisdom and power.
In addressing the Corinthians, Paul unveils a remarkable truth about Christ, the Anointed One: He is both the Wisdom and the Power of God to save. Simply put, Christ personifies the Anointing. Observing Jesus’ ministry, we see a visible display of God’s wisdom and power.
God’s power is the first and most dramatic operational dimension of the anointing. This aspect is vividly described in Acts 10:38:
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38, KJV)
God has anointed us with the power to live the Christian life and serve Him in ministry, including healing the sick, casting out demons, and preaching His Word.
Additionally, the operational arm of the anointing includes a less appreciated dimension—the wisdom of God. Jesus was not only anointed with power but also with tremendous wisdom that often baffled religious leaders. We see a remarkable example of the wisdom of the anointing in the Old Testament in the life of Bezaleel, whom God anointed to design and craft the beautiful elements of the Tabernacle. Wisdom builds—it constructs lives, homes, churches, ministries, etc.
Understanding that the anointing brings wisdom and power can transform how we live and minister. Here is the truth: God has anointed you in Christ, and power and wisdom operate in you every day and every aspect of your life. You only need to learn to tap into them daily.
Meditate
Consider the two dimensions of the anointing discussed above. Which is more active in your life?
Apply the Word
If God uses you in some capacity—within the operational dimension of the anointing—He will impart power and wisdom. We need both. Let the anointing of the Lord continue to increase in these two dimensions of your life.
Pray
Ask the Spirit to give you an increased understanding of the operations of the anointing in your life.
