Anointed with fresh oil
But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil (Ps. 92:10 KJV)
King David wrote the Psalm above, and makes the bold assertion that the Lord shall anoint Him with fresh oil. He knew what the anointing was. He was anointed as a little boy in the midst of his brothers to be the King of Israel. He had experienced the effects of the anointing in his life before and after he became the king of Israel.
The translation of the KJV above uses “I shall be…”, as though it is a future event David was looking forward to. However, David was speaking about what has already happened in the past. The ESV translation for part b of the verse above is “you have poured over me fresh oil”. He was already anointed as King. The believer in Christ has been anointed with the fullness of the fresh oil from heaven through the anointing of the Anointed One Himself! The scripture says
But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge (1 Jn. 2:20 ESV)
You were anointed when you received Christ as the Holy Spirit came inside of you, to be a child of God and to serve Him with your very life as a King and a Priest. The anointing is God’s power that is tangibly at work in your life. You cannot be a child of God without the power of the Holy Spirit. It takes the anointing to be a Christian, and the Lord has poured fresh oil upon you!
MEDITATE
Why do we need the anointing to be a Christian and to serve God in ministry? ( Zech. 4:6, Rom. 8:9). Declare that “I have been anointed with fresh oil and I am able to live for God and serve Him in wisdom and power”.
APPLY THE WORD
You are anointed. Let this consciousness be in you. Grow in that anointing. Seek the Lord also for the anointing to serve Him in ministry wherever you are.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the fresh oil that has been poured out over your life.
