A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26, KJV)
The new birth is the gateway to a new relationship with God. When we hear the Word of God and believe in Jesus, the new birth takes place, and we become new creatures, children of God. Two concurrent mysteries take place at the new birth. The first is noted above.
The Lord promised He would give His people a new heart and take away the stony heart out of their flesh. The new heart is the new spirit, and the stony heart is the old spirit. The old man died and the new man was born! At the new birth, a brand new spirit was born. This spirit is the human spirit inside of us. However, something else takes place, which many believers have not yet fully comprehended it. It is noted in the verse following the verse above:
“And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them” (Ezekiel 36:27, KJV).
After the Lord has created a new human spirit inside of us, He then gives us His own Holy Spirit. On the surface, it means there are two spirits inside of us, right? Well, no! Paul tells us:“But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:17, KJV). The Holy Spirit becomes one with your human spirit. It does not replace it; neither does He live in you besides your human spirit. He lives as one spirit within you! That simply means God has merged Himself with you. He has made you a partaker of the divine nature. You can now live as God lives, feel like He feels, act, and talk like He does, etc This is the life of glory you have been called into!!
What are the two distinct processes that took place in you when you received Christ, as mentioned above? What kind of life are you expected to live if the spirit in you is one with the Holy Spirit?
APPLY THE WORD
I have written before that there are only two things that keep us from our inheritance now. They are revelation and faith, spiritual understanding and believing of what God has done. The Lord open your eyes to see these things and grace your heart to believe them!
Bless the Lord for the wonderful gift of the new life in Christ.
