The Secret of the Ephesian Church
He(Paul) departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks (Acts 19:9-10 KJV)
How many of you are in love with the book of Ephesians? I am! This book is a picture of the life of the Church in Ephesus. You can read of the comments of the Lord Himself about this Church in Revelations Chapter 2. What were the secrets of this Church in Ephesus? It becomes apparent when we examine the foundation of the Church from the days it was being planted.
The Apostle Paul came to Ephesus and initially spent some time with the Jews in the Synagogue persuading them that Jesus was the Messiah. When the Jews persistently opposed and rejected the Gospel, he left the synagogue and “rented a town hall called the hall of Tyrannus”( my paraphrase). The scripture above says for two full years, Paul taught these believers and grounded them in the Word. Many of the Churches that Paul planted did not have this privilege of the Apostle spending such a long time to teach them the Word. The Word of God exploded to such an extent that it spread like wildfire throughout Asia. The scripture says “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed” (Acts 19:20 KJV).
This is the foundation of the Church in Ephesus. If the Church will ground the believers in the Word as Paul did in Ephesus, we will turn the world upside down as it was said of Paul. The same will be said about you if you will pay attention to the Word in your life.
MEDITATE
Why is the foundation of the house so important? What is the foundation of your life? How do you get built and established in the faith? Col. 2:7
APPLY THE WORD
Give God’s Word a priority in your life. Nothing will make an impact in your life as Christ being revealed to you in the scriptures.
PRAY
Please pray earnestly and ask the Lord to help Churches across the globe pay attention to the Word of God. We have become too distracted by too many things. Ask the Lord to help pastors and individual believers grow and be established in the knowledge of Christ.
