Spiritual workout to develop your spiritual life

Exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things.. (1 Tim. 4:7-8 KJV)

The verse above gives us an interesting comparison between physical and spiritual workout. Physical exercise (bodily exercise) has some value in it. Medical science now has solid evidence to prove the benefits of exercise. Stay physically active, because it is not only medically proven, but is Biblical!

The Bible gives us a higher dimension of exercise referred to as “godliness”.  It says “exercise thyself rather unto godliness”, which means to train yourself in spiritual things. As physical exercise trains and builds up physical muscles, so spiritual exercises will train and build up your spiritual muscles. It is important to understand that spiritual things can be taught, and you can train yourself in the things of God. You can train yourself to walk in the Spirit. You can train yourself to hear God. You can train yourself to be spiritually strong and mature. Heb. 5:16 says “but solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil (NAS). You can train your spiritual senses. Get into God’s gym. Engage in spiritual workout. In God’s gym, the Holy Spirit is the Coach. Let Him train you, by the Word of God, into a mature believer. Meditating in the Word is a spiritual workout. Prayer is a spiritual workout. Ministering is a spiritual workout. Exercise yourself unto godliness!

Engage in spiritual exercise right now! Ponder and mutter the scripture above. Heb. 5:16 says you train yourself by practice.

The instruction from 1 Tim. 4:7 above is to exercise yourself unto godliness, so take action. We are all bombarded by what I call the “crisis of hearers”, we  hear, enjoy, but do nothing about what we heard. When you read the Word, learn to take an action. This is DOING THE WORD. That is where the blessing lies. If you were not engaging yourself in spiritual training exercises, start doing so. Start paying attention to your spirit. Engage the Word. Train your spirit in prayer and worship. Train your spirit in the Word.
