Put on the new man
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness (Eph. 4:24 KJV).
One of the most mind-blowing revelations of the work of Christ is that the Spirit of the Lord repeats the creative work done in the book of Genesis 2:7 every time a man believes in Christ. This truth can quickly become mere Christian rhetoric if we fail to truly grasp the full measure of what the Lord is saying here. What God did in the book of Genesis as He created man has been repeated. That is how big the death of Christ on the cross is.
When God created Adam, He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul( Gen. 2:7). Adam’s body and spirit were created. In Christ, the Lord recreates the spirit of the believer at salvation. This new spirit, called the new man, continues to live in the old body while we are still alive here on earth. However, the body of this new man will be given to him at the resurrection. This is what the Apostle Paul was speaking of in the verse below:
And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. (Rom. 8:23 KJV)
God means what He says. You have been recreated in Christ. He wants you to put on this new man by allowing the new life to control your mind, words, and actions.
MEDITATE
What happened to the “old man” when we received Christ at salvation? ( Rom. 6:6). Declare that “I am a new creation in Christ and I am putting on the new man in my outward life each day.”
APPLY THE WORD
God wants you to put off the deeds of the old man and put on the acts of the new man. Allow the new nature inside of you to control your life.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the blessing of the new creation in Christ.
