Perilous Times Signaling the End
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come (2 Tim. 3:1 KJV).
Paul speaking to Timothy, his spiritual son told him about one of the characteristics of the end times which he called “perilous times.” Perilous times are merely difficult or terrible times which will be hard to deal with. But what makes these times perilous? What would be difficult about these days? Well, I know many of you will think about the natural disasters, wars, etc. Yes, these will characterize the end times but the Apostle Paul introduces us to a different segment of the difficulty of these days. Verses 2-5 are very explicit about the characteristics of these days:
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people (2 Tim. 3:2-5 ESV).
The list is clear enough. The key element here is the behavior of people. It is not the wars and rumors of wars here but human behavior that will be hard to deal with. Please look at the list above again if needed and see for yourself that we are indeed in perilous times without a doubt. We are in the last days. Be watchful brethren, the coming of the Lord is at hand!
MEDITATE
Why are such sinful behaviors gradually increasing on the earth right now? ( Isa. 61:1-3)
APPLY THE WORD
Do not allow yourself to be carried away by the times. Interestingly, you find some Christians who are having such difficult behaviors characteristic of perilous times. The Lord knows His own, and He commands that everyone that calls the name of the Lord should depart from iniquity. Live your life prepared at every instant for the coming of the Lord.
PRAY
Ask the Lord to strengthen you to live a life that is holy and pleasing to Him in these difficult times
