Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1, KJV)
After giving us a synopsis of the astonishing accomplishments of faith by men and women who walked with God, the scripture above encourages us to run with patience, the race that is set before us. We have a great cloud of witnesses that have gone before us. We have people who were like us but tested this God and found Him faithful. They tested faith and obtained results.
He encourages us to run the race. You stepped on the track when Jesus came into your heart. Many things happen along the way during a race. Some people even drop out while others get injured. We will face challenges on the way. There are times when discouragement might also hit on our doors. You might even meet situations that force you to ask yourself, “is God really with me?.” Do not give in to any of these, for the Spirit of God is operating powerfully in you to overcome. You are in a race. The Lord says, “run with patience” and will not fail you.
One of the strategies the enemy uses against us is discouragement. He wants us just to run out the drive to continue. A lot is happening in the world, and even in the Church circle. However, you cannot afford to slow down or let anything quench your fire for God. Do not let that situation extinguish your joy, prayer life, or zeal for God. Keep running the race!
What two things does the Lord tell us to do in our verse above as we run this race? Declare that “ I am fighting the good fight of faith, and I will finish this race with joy!”
APPLY THE WORD
Do not allow any weight or sin cause you to get off track. Do not allow anyone or anything to cause you to stumble. There is a cloud of witnesses cheering you up! Run the race and finish big with God!
Ask the Lord to strengthen you to run this race and overcome every discouragement on the way.
