Learning to see God around you
“The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness… (Matt. 6:22-23 NAS)
Jesus made the powerful statement above that “the lamp of the body is the eye”. Your eyes will determine whether your life will be full of light, or shrouded in darkness. Jesus referred to our natural eyes to teach us a spiritual lesson. Imagine the world of a blind man for a minute. Everything is dark, every minute of every day. The same is true of our spiritual eyes.
Your attention and focus originates from your “eyes”. Our spiritual eyes enable us to see, or discern, God in the natural things around us. The universe, for example, reveals the power and wisdom of God (Ps. 19:1). Two people looking at the sky may see different things. One might only see how beautiful the sky is, while another sees the power of God revealed through these heavenly bodies. Cultivate the habit of seeing God in the affairs of your life. You can choose to either see God, or to see other things. Choose God, and not Satan, nature, or just chance.
MEDITATE
Ponder deeply on the verse above. How do you see? What do you often see?
PRAY
Ask the Lord to open your perspective to be conscious of His presence, and begin to see Him in the daily affairs of your life.
APPLY THE WORD TODAY!
Be intentional today and “look for God” in the very mundane activities you are engaged in. Do you know that God is with you at your job? What about your kitchen? In your car on the highway? Things might happen to you which are not of God, but He is with you, and you can choose to see Him, rather than the circumstances. An easy way to “see God” is to remember Him, and what He said about the current situation. Focus on that! You are seeing what you focus on. Focus on God today!
