Laughter in the Bible
And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me (Gen. 21:6 KJV)
There are at least two types of laughter in the Bible that are pertinent to us as children of God. The first in seen in the verse above where Sarah said “God hath made me to laugh”. The Lord answers our prayers and does such marvelous wonders in our lives, that spontaneous and natural laughter wells up from within us.
In fact Sarah’s miracle was so remarkable that those who heard it also laughed with her. May the Lord cause you to laugh as well! It is His divine pleasure to see us experience His goodness with laughter, unspeakable joy, and wonder of His glory.
The second type of laughter in the Bible is when God Himself is laughing! Well, you might not have heard about God laughing in the scriptures, but the Psalmist said “why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?……. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh”(Ps. 2:1-4 KJV). The Lord looked down on the earth and saw the rulers of the world trying to wipe out His people with secret plots. He saw how futile their efforts were – and He laughed! Many people have vowed to wipe out Christianity, both in history and in contemporary times. The Lord looks at it and laughs!
As a believer, you have already won the victory through Christ in you. When the Lord does it again, laugh! When your enemies plan evil against you, join the Lord in laughter!
MEDITATE
Can you remember another instance when God made his people laugh because of what He did for them? See Ps. 126:1-2. Declare that “the Lord is making me to laugh this year and onwards!”
APPLY THE WORD
There is hope in God. Be strong in your faith and know that your God will surely make you laugh.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for being the God who puts laughter in the mouth of His children.
