How God works through his mouth and hands
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying (1 Kings 8:15 KJV)
When Solomon finished building the Temple, he said “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it”. God spoke with His mouth to David and gave him a promise. He used His hands to fulfill His Word to David. So Solomon is saying God spoke with His mouth and brought it to pass using His hands. Solomon vividly describes the mysteries of how God operates.
First, the mouth and hand above are metaphorical. God does not have a physical mouth or hand as we do. I will not get into this today. Solomon was using our human experiences to convey to us how God works. We speak with our mouths and then do things with our hands. God operates by speaking. When He speaks, His power then goes to fulfill what He has spoken. The word “mouth” is the source of the Words from God, and “hand” represents the instrumentality by which God accomplishes what He has spoken, that is, His power. God speaks and His power brings it to pass.
Isaiah 55:11 describes this beautiful
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: It shall not return unto me void, But it shall accomplish that which I please, And it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11 KJV)
God does not have physical hands to do things. His hand is His Word that proceeds from Him( speaking) and accomplishes what He desires to do. The mystery gets more intriguing and interesting. In these same verses, we find the mysterious unity of the Spirit and the Word. God speaks by His Spirit. In other words, the Spirit is the Source of the Word, or with the analogy above, the Spirit is the “mouth” of God from which the Word proceeds. And the Spirit is the power by which the Word comes to pass!
May the Lord open your understanding to this insight. As I have mentioned to us several times, the day we realize that God works through His Word or the Spirit of God works in the Word, we will begin to take our Bibles seriously. Many of us have not yet realized the Bible is not merely a manual of life instructions from God. God Himself is in the Word. He is the Word, and the Bible is a manifestation of that Word in written human letters. May your ears be tuned to His mouth and may His hands be upon you and make you a living expression of the supernatural every single day.
MEDITATE
Have you ever heard of the theological concept called “anthropopatheia?” I want you to search it up and read a brief summary of what it means and how it relates to what I have shared above( e.g. see studylight.com).
APPLY THE WORD
God works in our lives by the Word. The Spirit is in the Word and the Word is the expression of the Spirit! He speaks and then watches over His Word to fulfill it with His hands. The Bible in your hands is the Word already gone forth. He is watching over that Word to fulfill in your life. As you read, understand, believe, receive and act on that Word , His hands get to work. Corporate with God!
PRAY
Ask the Spirit to help you cooperate with Him fully in the Word.
