Grace is fellowship with Jesus
God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Cor. 1:9 KJV).
Grace is the divine call, beckoning man to fellowship with Jesus, the Son of God. This revelation carries a key to understanding the riches of God’s grace.
Fellowshipping with Jesus is not just being with Him, like having a meal together. It means that God makes you a partaker of Christ, so that you share in His nature, glory, and excellence in all their fullness. Let me use a simple example to illustrate this concept.
Imagine a billionaire, who has one son, brings a street kid into his home. Imagine he gives this street kid a room with everything the child needs. The billionaire’s son would be sharing some things with the street kid, but certainly not everything. Maybe the street kid has 10%, while the son has 90%. There might be some things the son of the house owns, which the street kid does not, and at the end of the day, the street kid remains a stranger in the house.
Though this would be considered kindness, it is not the gift of grace, or the meaning of fellowshipping with Jesus. Now, imagine that the billionaire father said to the street kid “All that my son has, will be shared with you. There is no division, you both have equal and full rights to everything! And best of all,” he tells the street kid, “I give you the full status of a son, my son, in this house. I see you, as I see my son!” This is the meaning of being made partakers of the Son of God.
MEDITATE
Can you see why grace is intimately connected to Jesus? It is much more than His sacrifice on the cross. We are called to partake of His status as the Son of God.
