Getting specific with our believing
“…And everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world” (John 11:26–27 ESV)
When Jesus came to Lazarus’ funeral, Martha’s brother, who had been dead for 4 days, He said to Martha “I am the resurrection and the life and whoever is dead and believes in Him will live again”. Jesus had in His mind the physical resurrection of Lazarus and He asked Martha “do you believe this?”.
The force of that question is in the word “this”. Jesus was asking Martha if she believed something very specific, that is, her brother Lazarus will be raised back to life. Martha responded to Jesus and said , “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world”. Do you see the problem? She believed Jesus was the Christ but did not believe the specific thing Jesus asked her to believe. What does this tell us?
Believing is not universal. The fact that you believe Jesus is the Savior does not automatically mean you believe He will supply your needs or heal your body ,etc. As I have mentioned, we must ensure we believe every specific thing the scriptures have said which is applicable to us. Be specific with your faith, not broad and general. Maybe for some of you today, Jesus is asking, “do you believe that I can supply your financial needs?”. He knows you believe He died and resurrected, but He wants to know if you believe THIS!
MEDITATE
I want you to get specific right now and make this devotional yours. If you are struggling with an issue, ask yourself if you have truly believed God can meet that need as He has stated in the scriptures which you should know.
APPLY THE WORD
You are learning that believing is not vague but very specific. Do not assume because you believe God is your Healer automatically means believe all of the Word. Do not leave anything to assumptions, especially if you have a specific challenge. Make sure you have truly believed the Word of God about THAT specific situation.
PRAY
Ask the Spirit to help you work on your heart to believe all of the Word.
